Starting a new job is exciting – and sometimes a little overwhelming. That’s why we aim to make your transition as smooth, welcoming, and inspiring as possible! Our onboarding process is designed to set every new team member up for success while making them feel like part of the Valo Motion team from day one. To get an understanding of our onboarding process, meet Precilia Lievonen, our People & Office Specialist, who ensures that everyone joining us will feel supported and valued.

“I want every new employee to feel like they’re never alone in this. From the moment you sign your contract to long after you’ve settled into your role, we’re here to support you at every step”, Precilia shares.

With a heart that loves people, Precilia feels like she is just where she is meant to be. “I love people! There is nothing better than people. I always hoped that at work I could at least make someone's everyday life a little easier, and that's why this role is perfect for me.”

Precilia takes care of our team members and their work-related needs – whether it is about well-being, culture, or HR practicalities. Her commitment ensures that no one feels alone and everyone has the space to ask, wonder, and be themselves. “I believe that we all need someone to talk to at work and share thoughts, concerns, or worries with—beyond just work-related topics. It doesn't always have to be the team lead, it can be someone else,” she explains.

Welcoming you before day one

Our onboarding starts well before you walk through our doors – literally. After signing the contract, you’ll receive a welcome email packed with all the information you’ll need to prepare for your first day, along with access to our internal systems and onboarding platform.

“Our preboarding phase is all about showing new team members that we’re genuinely excited to have them. We’ll make sure your workspace is ready, your swag is ordered, and that you know what to expect when you arrive”, Precilia explains.

Through our onboarding platform, you get to explore our team, select your favorite Valo Motion gear, and get an initial sense of our company culture. Precilia emphasizes how important it is to make our team feel prepared. “It’s all about that first impression. We want every new team member to feel right away that they’re part of something special.”

Your first week at Valo Motion

#1 Welcome lunch to get to know your team

Your onboarding officially kicks off on day one, starting with a warm welcome lunch with your team. It’s a chance to connect with your new colleagues right away. Following lunch, you’ll meet with Precilia to go through the HR practicalities – everything from tools and software to policies and who to turn to when you need help.

One of the highlights of the first week is getting acquainted with everyone in the company.

“We’re a team of nearly 50 people and we really aim for everyone to know everyone. It’s not just about knowing a name but also building genuine connections”, Precilia explains.

#2 Immerse yourself in our products – and have fun!

If there is something unique in our onboarding, it is that you’re not just told about the products we build – you get to experience them firsthand! Next to our office in Helsinki, Lauttasaari we have ValoHalli which has all our products available. So, whether it’s climbing with ValoClimb, jumping with ValoJump, or engaging in multiplayer fun on ValoArena, new team members get to try out the mixed-reality games that make us proud.

“We want you to immerse yourself in the products. Testing and playing aren’t just fun – they help you connect to our mission of getting people moving. You see and feel the impact of what we do”, Precilia shares.

For us, this isn’t just a perk but it’s a vital part of understanding why your work here matters.

#3 Learn about the different teams

During the first few weeks, you’ll also participate in focused sessions with all of our different teams, learning about their roles and how they’ll collaborate with you. From marketing to operations, these meetings provide a big-picture view of the Valo Motion team.

“The purpose of these sessions is to give you clarity. We want you to understand what each team does but also to show how other teams can support them – and how they, in turn, can support others”, Precilia says.

Onboarding continues with the 6-month plan

Onboarding doesn’t stop after the first week – it’s an ongoing process that spans six months to help you grow into your role fully. Regular check-ins with HR and your team lead will ensure you’re comfortable, confident, and thriving.

Precilia highlights the commitment to growth and feedback. “We continuously refine our onboarding process based on feedback from employees. We’re always listening and improving.”

When it comes to professional growth, we encourage everyone to take ownership to evolve and grow as professionals. We give you the tools and support you need!

“Joining us at this growth phase of a company is a chance to make an impact and develop for example our processes and ways of working,” Precilia says.

She adds, “But the best part is that while you’re encouraged to be independent, you’re never left without support. Whether it’s your team lead, a colleague, or myself, there’s always someone to turn to.”

Ultimately, onboarding is about more than processes and checklists: we aim to create a sense of belonging. Precilia sums it up best: “The goal for every new hire is to feel like they’ve come home. We want you to feel cared for, supported, and empowered to be your authentic self.”
